To Whom are Corporations Responsible

When building a business, a person has to take into account all the variables that have an effect on the success of the corporation. In order to understand this ideology, our teachers decided to give us a project on creating our own businesses, and we had a choice of four models of corporate citizenship: minimalist, philanthropic, encompassing, and social activist. For all of us who chose to be philanthropic, encompassing, and social activist we had to consider more than just our investors and stakeholders. We had to know the effect this would have on the community around our company. We all had the option to move our companies' headquarters to other areas, but before we could leave we have to think about the people we are leaving behind. For my groups project, we decided to keep our main headquarters in Jackson because many of our interns come from Jackson State. With our company being music related, we look for musical talent in the local area, and we knew that if we left Jackson we would be leaving many talented people without an opportunity to have their music distributed to the general public. Being an encompassing company, we had to consider everything that had an influence on our company's success such as Robert's brodcasting which houses CW34 and 97.7 radio station. Once a year, our company sponsers a concert where all the artists that we advertise for get to showcase their talent for the community. This is not only a way for the artists to become known to everyone but also entertainment for the local community; it is also a way to have a company known to everybody.
For our papers on hip-hop we had to discuss the information on our artists and many of the artists we picked have businesses as well and most of them use the philanthropic model of corporate citizenship. My artist created his record company a chance to show their musical talent to the world, and many of them are big names in the game today. He also has more of a social active company where they build low income homes for the people in the neighborhood that he grew up in. He and his wife also have a project where they promote awareness on Alzheimer’s Disease because both of them have fathers who suffer from the disease and they don't want others to go through what they went through.
